What is a Search Engine

A web application used to search for information is a search engine. Search Engines take out information from the world wide web and then represent it according to the search keyword by the user.

How a Search Engine Works

Every search engine works in 3 ways.

  • Crawling
  • Indexing
  • Ranking Algorithm

Search Engines crawler goes to crawl every website, and then it saves all the crawled data into its local server. After that, the search engine indexer indexes that data, and then the websites are ranked.

Top Search Engines

There are more than 200 search engines; among these 200 search engines, 50 search engines are widely used. However, of these 50 Search engines, only ten search engines are the most popular. Therefore, I will state the top 10 search engines in this section.

1. Google

On our list of the top 10 search engines, Google is at the top. Google was developed on September 4, 1998, by Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Google holds around 92% of the global search market share.

2. Bing

Bing holds about 3.33% of the global search market share and is the second-most popular search engine. Microsoft established it on June 3, 2009.

3. Yahoo

Yahoo is ranked third in the Top 10 Search Engines list because it has 1.34% of the market share. The creation of this search engine began in January 1994. Yahoo’s market share was 36.7% in 2001, but it is presently less than 2%.

4. Yandex

Yandex is s Russian Search Engine. Yandex provides many other services, and its global market share is 0.97%.

5. Baidu

Baidu is a Chinese search engine founded in 2000.

6. Duck Duck Go

Duck Duck Go takes care of the privacy of its users. Every day, there are more than 90 Million searches on Duck Duck Go.

7. is one of the most popular question-and-answer search engines. Ask was created in 1996.

8. Ecosia

Ecosia was established on December 7, 2009. Ecosia uses 80% of its revenue to plant trees and help the environment.

9. AOL

AOL has a market share of 0.05%. This search engine was founded in 1985.
