Have you been dreaming of becoming a social media influencer? It looks easy from the outside, but is it really?
In reality, becoming an influencer is all about savvy self-marketing. Getting more clicks and views is more challenging than it seems. We’re here to offer advice.
Please keep reading to learn our top tips for starting a career as a social media influencer.
1. Pick a Niche
In 2021, it’s no longer possible to be a “general” influencer unless you happen to be naturally entertaining to a wide audience. Instead, it’s far better to pick a niche for yourself and stay within it.
If you want to use your influence to sell items, you’re going to want to hone in on a specific group of people and a specific industry. For example, most “beauty” gurus or influencers focus on young people with feminine aesthetics while talking about makeup and skin products.
Your niche will also help you determine your platform. For example, where does your audience spend the most time?
2. Interact With Others
Speaking of your audience, you can’t be a successful influencer without engaging your followers and interacting with other people on the platform. After all, this is social media.
When you’re first getting started, this will look like going to other people’s content and liking and commenting so you can build a community and get some visibility. Try to be authentic during this process as people don’t tend to like “social climbing.”
You’re also going to want to respond to all comments and messages at first. But, again, this helps with your engagement.
At first, you can buy views on TikTok and likes on Instagram. However, you’ll want to bring these things in organically eventually. That’s where good engagement comes in.
3. Be Your Own “Brand.”
Becoming an influencer and getting more followers is all about digital marketing. You might think that becoming an influencer is easy, but unless you’re lucky enough to go viral without effort, this is serious marketing work!
This means that you’re becoming your own product. So what’s your brand?
On social media, your brand will (mostly) consist of your aesthetic. Are you a beachy, cool, and relaxed influencer? What about a high-energy body-positive fitness influencer?
Curate your brand and lock it in, so people know what to expect from you.
4. Be Consistent
When it comes to meeting audience expectations, you need to be consistent. Consistency will keep people coming back for more if they already like your content.
Consistency looks different for everyone. For some people, this means posting every day on one platform or another. For others, it means posting once or twice per week.
While you’re keeping up with a consistent schedule, ensure that you don’t veer from your brand image unless you’re trying to adjust it.
Are You Prepared to Be a Social Media Influencer?
Being a social media influencer is harder than it looks. Most people aren’t natural influencers. Good influencers are just marketers who make it look easy.
If you’re up for the challenge anyway, try some of these tips and see what works for you. Good luck on your influencer journey!
