As human beings, we are always thinking of new ways to work efficiently and effectively. Since we can’t increase the number of hours in a day, all we can do is figure out ways to learn more things in less time.

Yes, having a chip installed in the brain would be ideal, but we are not there yet. All we can do is give you a few tips and tricks that can help you learn more things in a given time. You might be surprised to know that to learn effectively, all you have to do is give it your full attention, but it is not that easy when you are reading up on a difficult subject like history or learning the Quran online with Tajweed.

Below we have mentioned the tips that will help you retain information quickly without losing a lot of your time.

  1. Study the same thing from different resources

Data shows that if you are studying the same material from different sources, you are more likely to retain the information. With so many tools and resources we have today; we suggest using all the tools like using your phones, tablets, computers, textbooks, etc.

Also, change your location for learning as well. This helps as well. For example, you are reading up on a subject in a coffee house, and there is a song playing in the background. You might be able to associate the learning material with the song.

Relating the learning materials to things around you helps you retain information easily and can trigger your memory when trying to recall a certain lesson from your history chapter.

  1. Take a Break After every 30 or 60 Minutes.

A lot of us want to get done with our lesson in one go. And then take a break. However, studies suggest taking a break after every 30 or 60 minutes between a lesson keeps your memory fresh and helps retain more information.

So we suggest, divide your time into sections and make the most of it. What happens is, if you a lot yourself a longer study time, you might end up forcing yourself to study and focus; this will only lengthen your study time. You should take a break if you feel your mind is getting exhausted. This is why we suggest taking a break at least every 30 or 60 minutes.

  1. Shut Down Your Phone and Tablets

It is important that while you are studying, you shut down all forms of distractions. That means either put your phones on silent or just put them away for a while. Sometimes, even one second of checking on your phone can end up becoming hours of scrolling on the social media platform.

A lot of us have this bad habit of multitasking. This sometimes means we might be working on different projects at the same time. While we understand you might want to open an extra tab on your computer to check on some of your projects, etc., but this is something that will only increase your learning time and distract you.

  1. Use the ‘Memory Place’ technique.

This is a technique in which you associate a few names with the places in your surrounding. For example, if you want to learn the states’ names, you can start by denoting a window to one state’s name, another to the door, etc.

  1. Note Down things With Pen and a paper.

Noting down things with a pen and paper helps your memory. Yes, we today have laptops, mobile phones, and tablets, but the age-old technique of penning things down helps retain information.

  1. Stay Hydrated

A lot of us go through phases where we lose our appetite when studying. We must keep ourselves hydrated to keep our minds fresh and therefore stay focused on our lessons.

So if you are taking your Islamic class lessons, and if you have a class to learn Quran online with tajweed, have a bottle of water with you and keep yourself hydrated during your classes as well. This will keep you and your mind fresh.

  1. Sleep

A lot of us are in bad habits of staying up all night and studying for our exams. This is a norm yet does not help you with retaining information. It only makes you more tired, exhausted, and unable to retain information.

We suggest always take 8 hours of sleep at night and start afresh in the mornings.
